In the suit, The United States on behalf of the discriminated black community alleged that Cracker Barrel among others has engaged in a pattern or practice of discriminating against African-American customers based on their race or color.

Furthermore, the United States also alleged that in several reported cases, Cracker Barrel management directly participated in, or condoned the discriminatory conduct of their employers towards African Americans.

So, from the foregoing, the allegation of discrimination by Cracker Barrel was not left to slide. Legal actions were taken against them and in the next stage of this article, we shall show you the result of the legal actions.

What was the Result of the Legal Action against Cracker Barrel?

Although Cracker Barrel denied every allegation of racial discrimination against her company, they nonetheless agreed to an amicable settlement. Consequently, the Court gave a CONSENT ORDER that binds and prohibits Cracker Barrel from engaging and condoning racial discriminatory conduct.

  1. Cracker Barrel was prohibited from violating Title II of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, 42 U.S.C. §§ 2000a. The Act prohibits discrimination.
  2. That Cracker Barrel shall within 30 days from the date of delivering the Consent Order adopt a non-discrimination policy. The policy shall contain a compliance strategy to ensure compliance with Title II.
  3. That Cracker Barrel shall publish a nondiscriminatory statement on the entryway between the outer and inner doors of each restaurant. The Statement should be very visible to all customers entering and leaving.
  4. Also, Cracker Barrel shall develop channels of racial discrimination complaints. So that customers who have suffered racial discrimination can make a report.
  5. That Cracker Barrel shall create an Investigation Department. The department shall investigate allegations that suggest racial discrimination against customers.
